GEOS Disk Images
Tutorial
These disk images were used in my GEOS tutorials. If you get serious about GEOS, you'll want to create your own boot disk and work disks, but these should get you started.
-
1581 GEOS 2.0 boot disk (
.d81) - All of the system files, applications, desk accessories, fonts, and input drivers originally included with GEOS 2.0 on a single 1581 disk. I didn't include all the printer drivers—you'll have to look elsewhere for those.
-
Sample work disk (
.d81) - Sample work disk (.d81) with custom color preferences and files sourced from across the GEOS collection. I've included a selection of fonts that are knock-offs of the original "world-class city" fonts that Susan Kare designed for the original Macintosh.
The Very Second GEOS Collection
The Very Second collection that comes with the C64U includes GEOS disk images prepared by Cenbe, who was the creator of Lyon Labs, a site that hosted a popular GEOS site. Lyon Labs went offline in January 2026, but Lillian Skinner has set up an unofficial mirror with most of the content intact.
-
GEOS 2.0 plain boot disk (
.d64) -
Bootable
.d64image with the copy protection removed and some minor Kernal patches. I go over the file contents on this disk in Getting Started with GEOS. -
geoWrite Swap Disk (
.d64) - Includes geoWrite, a few useful tools, and a handful of fonts. This disk is jammed to the rafters—with only 6Kb free, you'll want to build yourself a project work disk before taking geoWrite out for a spin.
