Example 5.21
Ivan Wyschnegradsky, Prelude No. 16, mm. 7-13
In mm. 7-13 of Prelude No. 16, the melody outlines the "tonic" DC-chord: B-quarter-flat, D-quarter-flat, F-natural, and A-flat, embellished by passing tones and neighbour notes. I've represented the descending thirds at the end of the melodic statement in this example as a series of unfoldings.
